-Population growth could harm poverty eradication and safe & stable environment

*National Population Policy, 2000
-Feb 15, 2000
-Short term objectives:meeting the needs for contraceptives,health care infrastructure , health personnel and integrated service delivery.
-Medium term objectives: Bring TFR at replacement level.
-Long term objectives: Stabalisation of population till 2045
-16 promotional and motivational measures - some of them are promoting small families via PRIs, strict implementation of Child Marriage Restrain Act, PCPNDT Act, incentives for late marriage, late deliveries and sterilisation.

*National Commission on Population: 
-May 2000
-Chaired by PM with Dy Chairman of Planning Commission , CMs, Eminent Physicians, demographers, representatives of civil society.
-Aim: To review , monitor and give directions for implementation of the National Population Policy
-National Population Stabilisation Fund: July 2000=> Transferred to Dept of Health and Family Welfare.

*National Health Policy:
-Adoption in 1983
-NHP, 2002=> 1) Need to increase public sector health expenditure from 2 to 3 %
2) Strengthning role of public sector in social protection against rising cost of health service.
